In this movie, firstly a flashback of 2 nuns living in St Carta's abbey in Romania in 1952, they are attacked by unknown evil after they entered a tunnel, that is finit hic,dio that means Gods ends here. The surviving nun, sister Victoria hanging herself from the evil possessing her body. Her body was discovered by Frenchie, a villager who supplies vegetable to the nuns. Then the Vatican know this incident and they send Father Burke to investigation and they send sister Irene with him. They travel to Romania and meet Frenchie who leads them to abbey. He discovered a nun body, she has a key with her. They ask mother superior who tells they the nun observe a period of silence during the night. So they wish to return tomorrow and stay there. Frenchie was attacked by demons but escaped and return to the village. Burke tells Irene the past that when he exorcised a boy but he is dead. Burke has carried burden of the boy's death. Then Irene tells her visions that 'Mary points the way', causing the Church to take a interest in her. That night, Burke was rescued by Irene after being buried alive in the graveyard by the evil. The next day, they return to abbey, but only Irene can enter. She meets some other nuns, they are praying constantly. Then sister Oana reveals the history of abbey that the abbey was built in the dark age. Duke of St. Carta, a powerful aristocrat was releasing the demon by evil books but he was killed by Christian knights who sealed the gateway with the Blood of Christ. However, bombings during World War 2 reopened the gateway. Burke then identifies that evil was a 'Valak'. Frenchie was return to the abbey for help to them. When they reunites, Irene was praying alone, then she realize there is no nuns and the last nun is sister Victoria. Suddenly the Victoria body attacked them the Burke was burn the body. They realizing that Valak can only be stopped by seal the gateway with the Blood of Christ. So they seek the Blood of Christ and tunnel door. They found the Blood and entered the door, there is lots of demon as a nuns cover their face. So they fight and see the Valak that attack them in the flooded chamber. Irene spit the Blood of Christ to the Valak face and the gateway sealed. During Frenchie rescued Irene to that place. After Frenchie reveals his original name is Maurice. Then the lopsided cross symbol on his neck that he possessed by Valak. 20 years later, Ed and Lorraine Warren ( see in conjuring universe) shows the footage of exorcise a possessed Maurice. Next the started of Conjuring universe. However, it is first time line of this universe.
